I can add to MySQL, but I can't access the data

Last week I had a problem with mysqld-nt.exe which meant that the database server wasn't running at all. I overcame this by reinstalling PHTriad, successfully.

Now, I can once again add new data via the web-based front-end. At least, I think I can, because the PHP code should intercept and flag any database access problems - and it doesn't do so (which it did when the server was down).

    But...

The applications that use the data can't get to it. Both MySQL CC and OpenOffice return as follows after I input the password - the same password, naturally, as used by the front-end :-

[Hamish PC] ERROR 1045: Access denied for user: 'root@localhost' (Using password: YES)

What's the best way to go with this?

that means you have a username or password wrong.

is the username 'root' and do you have the correct password. also make sure you are connecting to the correct database name.
success is not by chance, it is by choice.

See this link in the manual for restarting MySQL without passwords if you forgot the root password.

    Talking Thanks

Thanks for the help, guys. Everything now works fine.

Mind you, I still don't understand how I got there. I would swear that I was inputting the correct password. But obviously not, in some way. Have to work this out...

I think in the past I've entered quotes or something around my password and they got encryped as part of the password. Maybe that is what happened to you.
