    First site

    Hi All,

I'm new here, and I've just finished putting together my first site! It's been done using valid CSS for styling and layout. No tables were harmed during the making of this site! Still trying to get the XHTML to validate ...

    Thanks!

Nice work, I like your choice of colour/layout. Do you intend to use the site for anything productive?

    Dear gregor002,

That's impressive for a first site. Definately the best site I have seen today. Great work.

Looks really good. Some extra styling to the links on the right maybe. I feel the pages need a footer as well.

Not so keen on the way the menu text highlights to that bright blue.

Altogether a really nice job though!

i've seen that design somewhere before... oh well, not a time to point fingers.

My main problems are the background design, the black content area, and the seperators are too large.

Not bad! I love the dark background, in fact I would do away with the lighter boarder. The menu at the top could use some darker text. Keep working on it!

Very unusual use of colors and elements. Personally I think it is very stylish even though I like brighter colors. Good job.

The hover state of you top links is too light.

Very nice photography I must say

Thanks for the kind words! I'm not really planning on using it for anything "useful" and have started a WordPress blog instead. I just wanted to prove to myself that I could build a site ...

I'll post here when I'm done with the blog. Again, thanks for the kind words and the C&C!

Oh ... Andrew perhaps you've seen it before because I mentioned it on the TextPattern forums?!

The website seems to display ok with FireFox version 0.8 (cross browser compatibility is always good)

The colours are a good choice, however I would suggest changing the blue navigation bar to a darker shade. Also perhaps aligning the logo to the left instead of the right may help visually balance the page.

In all a great first webpage!

reasonable effort for a first site. I agree it could do with a footer and maybe a little more work on the header - there is a lot of flat color that could look nicer with a very simple one or two pixel emboss.

eh i'm not much of a fan for black backgrounds anymore, but strangly as i first started i thought they were awsome lol. It's generally good, i'd say change the font and maybe color scheme but its very good for a first site.

Didn't understand the "Frequented" navigation. The title of this navigation could use to be more discriptive.

    Thumbs up

Yes your website is quite ok! Like the top banner with the head and the logo. I don't particulary like the blue color of the menu associated with the brown color. The background image is a bit disturbing as well.

I like it... very CSS oriented and that can work.

I think you should darken the font color on the horizontal top menu to make it easier to read. Just a darker grey.

Even more important though.... the hovers are taking way too long to load on mouseover. Are they images? If so, you need to javascript pre-load them.

    Hy

    Hy,
Nice site, good links. You stil have to work more at the design.
Personaly i dont like the blak background; the second background dont work with the rest of the site; i soggest you to discus with an design expert. He will up to date your design.
The img. text delimitation you should replace it with a simple line.
Where is the other pages of your site???
You lose to much space at the hader.
Well for the first time site you have done a nice jobe. Congratulation!
    Hope this will help.

Just want to say this site is looking great. But it has that blog feel and it's nothing new, nor unique. And whats with Georgia? Has it become a standard in blog sites or something?

I really love seeing unique looking blog sites once in a while, and this is just not one of them.

But for a first site this is probably the best I've seen.
    Congratulations

As commented upon above but with my own endorsement: for a first site it's a bloody strong effort.

You've obviously taken some time to ensure it validates and no doubt hit the W3C validator. Your CSS has one error - negative padding - but you're no doubt aware of this and, I guess, have implemented it as a browser fix.

Accessibility-wise, you have a little way to go but as it stands you've got a level-A pass on the index page. Not bad. Not bad at all.

I get the feeling that, like me, you take pains to ensure your technical understanding is well grounded before incorporating certain aspects of design -- like using unordered lists for navigation and maintaining discrete <div> sections such as menu and main content areas.

I advocate getting to grips with a strong skeletal framework underpinning the cosmetic aspects of site build. Personally, I like the way you've gone for a black background. I did similar with the first incarnation of one of my business sites ... and it is definitely challenging

Overall, a technically strong (and brave for the dark schema) effort.
