    My site

In fact, I encourage everyone to set my frontpage as their starting page.

Hmmm, wait a second... I no longer run CPM ads... never mind.

Seriously, I think the best is http://my.yahoo.com combined with the google toolbar for searches and pop blocking.

www.google.com ....always handy, fast loading and you needn't have the toolbar.

Failing that a custom page from any major portal that presents you with the news/weather/jokes that you want.

I used to use a page I built with all my favourite links on it, but now I just dive in wherever!

http://start.earthlink.net—only works if you're an EarthLink subscriber, though.

Yeah, too many people complained so they took the site down . I'm sure you can still find mirrors and tribute sites all over the place though, but I wouldn't go looking for 'em.

Build your own. I wrote my start page to have links to all of my sites - in fact I ping 'em and a little green or red box lets me know if they are online - forums I visit frequently - like SP - a link to my webmaster folder with apps and docs and links neatly categorized into additional folders. It's a work in progress, but it helps my efficiency and it loads fast as it is hosted on my local HD.

That's not a bad idea ... of course I'm too damn lazy to go through all my bookmarks and make my own start page.

I start with Yahoo so I can get some quick news before I go where I want to go.

I agree with post #6, TheOriginalH , make your own start page which loads up from your own hard drive!

It doesn't have to look great as long as it does the job.

I have done this and my page includes links to, yahoo home page, yahoo mail, google, my web hosting co., banks, 3 or 4 discussion forums I'm involved with, links to my own websites, eBay sign in page, and a few other sites related to projects I'm working on......

I start at google since my total number of bookmarks is nearly 4.000.000.000 so it's quite useless actually using them

Here's one that I had made awhile ago for Web designers and developers. It's a little outdated and I'd be happy to update it with different links from your suggestions...
