    Hi,

I have a VCD which has Video on it. Now this is in the MPEG format right.

Using RealProducer (real.com) I wish to convert this VCD into Real format.

For this purpose I need to convert the MPEG into AVI format, which is giving me
nightmares, since I have not been able to find even one piece of software which would help
    me do this.

Please let me know if any of you out there have done some conversion like this before.

I would really appreciate and be thankful for your efforts.

    Thanks & BYE !

I am experiencing the same problem.
I wish to import some mpeg file I shot with my digicam into Adobe After Effects, but it doesn't appear to support that file format. So I am looking for a way to convert mpeg to avi or quicktime or any other decent format it understands.

I hope someone has the answer.

The movie on your VCD should be in MPEG-1 format.

The best way that I have found to convert MPEG-1 to real via AVI is as follows.

1). Get the MPEG-4 codec from somewhere on the web.
2). With the codec installed run premiere.
3). Bung your MPEG on the timeline.
4). Render the movie, with the output format as AVI, and the selected codec as MPEG-4 75% or better quality.
5). RealProducer should be able to convert the AVI to rm.

Hint: in RealProducer select your target bitrates and then check the 56K and corporate LAN options too (assuming you are creating a G2 surestream, and you have the bought version of realproducer). With 56K and Corp LAN streams in the finished SureStream file you have the best and worst quality video streams in the file, so it will look good on the web and from CD or HDD.
