I know we went over this before, but I need help.

I opened my site on 1/25. Signups for my free host have decreased about 50% each day and are now down to almost nothing. I suspect this initial signups were from posts in various forums about my opening.

The question now is where to promote? I submitted to all the search engines on Saturday and I'm not listed yet, and probaly won't be for a while. I submitted to every hosting directory I can find. I'm also going to buy some keywords on Goto.com.

However, this results from all this have been minimal. Maybe some banner advertisments somewhere? I don't really like link exchanges as they won't fit well with my design. Anyone else have promotion idea's for a new free web host?

Are there any e-zones or hosting sites I should be buying ads on? Or something else alltogether. I plan on offering a basic paid plan in the future and an affilitae program to reward webmasters that refer others. However, if no ones there to start with this maybe a problem.

    Any help would be apperciated.

I've had some experience in this field, and I found promoting a free host - without spending any money - was pretty easy. I don't know how many signups you're looking for, but I managed to go from ~50 mostly warez/porn signups a day (after the warez/porn accounts were deleted, only a few legit remained) to about 70-80 legit signups/day.

Basically I went to every single free site place that I could find and I submitted both the free hosting and the free email to their directories. I made deals with webmasters of these sites to either put their banners/links into a certain amount of impressions in the webmaster file manager in exchange for linking to us in a promenent position on their site.

Go for link exchanges with these sites, offer to promote them to your members in newsletters. For the directories you've really got to make your service stand out. Don't give a horribly professional (boring) description because the professionals in most cases will pay for hosting (abiet they still want to pay as little as possible). You don't want to make it sound like you're an amateur either, just write a little blurb saying what you have to offer that no other free hosting site does.

Things that are free tend to be very easy to promote, everybody wants a freebie.. and there are PLENTY of freebie sites to list yourself in

Try that, once you're listed in all the directories and in the search engines see how you're doing. I'm not sure it'd be worth paying for banner advertising for a free host.. your choice though, I don't know how much cash you have or will make from each account

    best of luck,

Why not also submit to webmaster directory, and do some ad exchange with webmaster-related sites. Also, try to submit to freebie directory.

I would recommend getting some banner ads designed and submitting them to advertising networks to gain exposure for your company. This way, while you are waiting to be listed in all of the search engines your company will still be gaining exposure from the banner ads that will be displaying on company web sites throughout the Internet.

I recommend LogoIt.Com @ www.logoit-logos.com. Their banner ad service is great!

To late . I went out of business this afternoon. There was way to much abuse towards the very relaxed avertising method I employed. I plan to restructure and relaunch next month as a paid on host that has a $4 a month plan.

If it's a good host, people will come, I guarantee it. Try going to freewebspace.net to put your host up on it.
