My cats web site is growing and I'm getting around 100K pageviews per month.

Is that enough to start looking for targeted CPM? I'm currently using FastClick, but I'm thinking about getting the advertisers myself and using some software such as adcycle to run the ads.

Any tips about how to get advertisers, how much to charge, how to contact them etc. are appreciated!

    Thanks!

Thanks! That's a good article, but I'm still looking for some personal experiences.

I know I want to sell my inventory myself - I'm looking for examples of ad prices pages on websites, emails to potential advertisers etc.

Hi Anat. I know you from TWF.

I think 100K impressions a month is a good starting point to sell your own advertising. I recommend you use FastClick until you find an advertiser - in the mean time, setup an advertising page and plan and get ready! I use Burst! for the space I can't sell myself.

Hi Marc! Yeah, I noticed you around... +

I have tried Burst and was rejected - mind you that was in the days when I had only 10K a month (3 months ago).

I'm happy to correct my prediction. I'm expecting at least 200K this month, possibly more. I guess I could reapply with Burst, why would you say they're better than FastClick?

Also, how do you mix the use of a network and selling your own ad space. FasClick told me they'd be happy to present my advertisers on their network for the usualy 35% commission. But, what if I don't want to pay them that commission (after all I'm the one who's going to actively look for advertisers)?

I've never used a banner network - at $1 CPM it's not worth it. Just write to the company, asking to be put in touch with their marketing manager or advertising department regarding advertising on your site.

Sometimes they reply, sometimes they don't, sometimes they say no, and sometimes they say yes - and that's when the money starts rolling in...
