You know how links from linkshare and other programs have the URL, Banner, and a 1 pixel gif. Well I was wondering if anyone knew of a script that lets you rotate banners but also let you include the URL of the 1 pixel gif. I can't find this anywhere. Thanks!

    shimmy,

It depends on what kind of buget you are on. A lot of the members of this forum use commercial ad rotation software. But if you are like me on an extremely limited budget and don't mind the occasional failed banner load...

I use a simple javascript that I write as an externally called script which allows me to display the banner with linking url, the 1 pixel gif, and my own special twist...the link to the network that the ad runs on in case someone wants to sign up as an affiliate for that program. Check out the site in my profile and you'll see the script in action!

My company runs adrotator.com a free remotely hosted banner rotation system. If you have any questions about it feel free to email me directly(sunil@pollit.com).

    shimmy,

ad-rotator ia a viable option...the only reason I didn't go with them myself is that I didn't see a way for me to run my "dual" ads concept...part banner/part text...

Depending on the affiliate company, the Linkshare system can provide an all-inclusive banner URL that will rotate all the banners of a given size for that affilaite. Take a look at the bottom of the banner page.

If you go with your own banner rotating software you can disect the linkshare code. That 1 pixel image is only used to track display counts. It's the HREF URL that counts click thrus and sales. Just be careful which URL you use.

Thanks for the info everyone. I was unaware that the pixel was just for counting, I thought it was like a cookie or something. I like your setup Totenmaske but I don't know javascript, so I'll probably stick with my webadverts program. Thanks.

Shimmy - I based that on my own experimenting with taking apart the Linkshare banner codes. There may be a cookie involved. I can't say 100%. But from what I saw it looked like just a display counter.
