Banned Words

I think the banned words are a little out of hand, just look at this post here:

Competitors is a perfectly good word. Perhaps the logic that looks to bann words could be made to see if that word is a part of another word or if it stands by itself.

The logic does....

If you look in your post the word isn't banned.

However it seems that between version 1.1.4 and 1.1.5, Jelsoft changed where the censoring takes place. In Previous versions, censoring always took place before display, the uncensored version was stored in the database. Now it appears the censoring takes place before storage so changing of the word configuration has no effect on the previous words. I will have to look into it.

Actually it isn't the competitors words, which is banned, but the three letter part of it. It seems that all words for body parts are now excluded

Yes, I know. Thats why I said the logic should look to see if the word is part of another word before banning it.

As of this time, I personally consider this to be a moot point. The censorship functionality is operating as it was written by Jelsoft and has not been changed. The word in question has been changed to be a whole word match only.

The only words in the list are used in derogatory or inflammatory ways and will remain that way. The only body parts in the list are those words used in sexual or tones listed above and are not appropriate for these forums. I have also removed some words from the list which I thought were not necessary.

Ultimatly, I think we should have a choice in the user control panal to view, or not to view swear words. As long as the post is stored in the database as it was written, then the words could easily be filtered depending on the users choice on the thread page.
