    hello all,

I have a dilema. One of my clients wants me to submit them to yahoo. No problem. Except that their website is actually in two different categories. They could easily go into the self growth and personal development category or in the business area for their writing services and seminars.
I am confused as to which one to pick. Both are very important categories, but as you see are very different.

Any advise from seasoned Yahoo submitters would be greatly appreciated. My client will gain traffic from the self growth area, but more revenue from the business area. I am not sure there is enough business data on the homepage to justify this though?

    Thank you.

If the site is selling stuff, put it in the business section. Otherwise I reckon you'll be throwing money down the drain. Yahoo editors have to be very narrow-minded, so if one of them thinks your site should be in the business section, they'll just reject it if you send it to personal development.

Thanks for your reply. I did notice other self growth websites sell books and tapes etc on self growth so that is why I was confused. Actually I think those sites that do sell, are probably from older submissions when the editors were not so picky about submissions.

I appreciate your time to reply.

What I've also found is that even if you apply to one category, some editors are likely to put it in the other as well. I've submitted a few sites to only one category to find that they are soon in multiple categories anyway.

    Adam,

Now wouldn't that be nice. My client also does business to business type of seminars and that is yet another category. Maybe I will luck out and they will put us in three!!

Put it in the smallest category That way you ahve more of a chance of getting in as there is less competition!

Regional categories also help. I find that getting accepted via Yahoo Canada or something similar leads to a lot of traffic via regional directories as well as their main directory.

Also check which categories come up when you do a search for your keywords. Better to be in a popular category than one down the list. Always submit to Business if you are selling something but include the second category as well and you may strike lucky.
