1. ## Damn Benzier Curves!

This is pissing me off. I am following a tutorial online and I made my initial path, that of a laptop. Now I am trying to round some of the corners and it is frustrating the hell out of me.

Everytime I add a point, and I try to move THE ENTIRE LINE, instead I get a benzier curve.

Ok, image drawing a line from the top left corner of a monitor to the top right corner. now imagine a line from the top right corner to the bottom right corner. Well, obviously not all monitors are 90 degree angles, so I want to add some roundness to them. Well, what happens is when I try to round the top right corner, the line between the top right and bottom right goes farther RIGHT, meaning it no longer appears to be on a straight line with the 2 corners. So then when I try to pull the line back to the monior, I get a benzier curve that screws it up. What is wrong with my thinking here

Thanks
Bryan

2. Bryan, first you have to use the proper method of creating your path shape, in order to have rounded corners. I'm going to assume you don't have PS6/7/8 for this, because they have a rounded corner vector shape that would pretty much eliminate the need for explaining this.

In order to have workable rounded corners in your specific path, you need 2 control points, not just 1. Take note in my example pic of how these 2 points need to be situated to each other.

Then, follow the instructions in the image below to create the curve you need. (using a grid and "snap to" will make this easier to do)

NOTE: the above example shows me adding the curve as i go. But they can also be done afterward if that makes drawing the shape any easier. If adding curves after your shape is created, then hold the Alt/Opt key down while click-dragging on the appropriate control point, and this will convert the straight point to a bezier curve. Don't forget to hold Shift down as well to constrain your drag angle.

If you have any questions just ask.

3. Thanks alot theGuest, I appreciate it.

Actually, I do use Photoshop 7, but I was trying to follow an online tutorial, so I was trying to learn the pen tool.

I have NOT been using the shift key on the curves, so I will do that for now on. If you want an example of what I was trying to do, I posted in this forum a laptop I tried to copy. I did an "alright" job, but not the greatest, then again, it was my first pen tool creation. You can see the curves I was talking about.

What I was doing, though, was making mostly 90 degree corners for the boxes, then going back with the pen tool that looks like a carrort symbol ^ to adjust the curves.

Thanks again
