    hi people

please could you let me know what you think of this new layout / colour scheme

it's pretty unique and i can't decide whether it looks stupid or not

if it looks childish, let me know - i won't be offended

I think its good if you arent going to have much content or links on it. Colors are pretty cool but I dont like the border I suggest making it red and solit. I am not very good at designing websites myself but I like critiquing them. Also only 143 popups blocked

In my opinion there seems to be too many bright colours?

You've got a bright blue, a lilac blue and a very bright light blue which are all fighting for attention. If your columns are going to be different colours - I'd recommend using very slight changes in tone of one colour (similar to http://www.bbc.co.uk). This way each column will complement each other?

thanks for your coments people - they're much appreciated

i've tidied it up a bit and tried to make the colours a bit more neutral

i'm trying to make it unique, yet professional looking at the same time - it's quite a difficult balance to achieve

what do you think of this version?

The layout and colours are not bad.

However - if you are intending to use this site as a platform to sell your web design skills, I can't help but feel you will need to display your ability on your own site - in order to show potential clients how good you are. You need to give your site some sort of "wow factor" that makes prospective buyers consider using you.

Like I said - the current state is fine, but maybe you need to redesign for your market? Like you oringinally said - make it unique?

For starters, I like the colour scheme, but I think the borders are just a tad too distracting. Maybe you could do something more to the logo/title, to help it stand out more from the site.

Oh yeah, I wasn't going to use it like it is, just playing around with CSS, trying to come up with new ideas. The text is from something else I'm working on.

    Thanks guys.

The design is not that appealing. I know people say that simplicity is good but your site is just too simple. It looks almost as if you rushed it.

The colours go well together though

I don’t like the colours at all –especially the one on the left; its too bright and cold and it takes all the attention and make the text hard to read. Try something softer and warmer.

Totally agree, your layout looks cold, try adding some warmer color like red or orange. The idea is good but works on colors

I think the colours draw you away from the text, you would definately need something softer and easier on the eyes

I looked at you second screenshot and have a few comments. I am not a big fan of the white background for the "Not all websites are the same" text. While it separates the purple text from the background the white space extends far beyond the text. This creates a distraction.
One way to "spice up" the site is to use custom bullet points for your lists. There you go, my 2 cents.

I think it looks very clean, but I have to agree that you are utilizing too many cold colors. Also, the site doesn't look like it should using Mozilla Firefox 0.8.

    Edit:

to remedy the color "coldness" I'd play around with the header and footer first

The site looks simple enough to easily make it xhtml valid 1.0 strict, that may help, though the code looks valid Look at it in different browsers using http://danvine.com/iecapture (very valuable resource )

by the way, "taylored" should be "tailored"
