page speed question... inline css or linked css file

    hi all,

concerned about page loading speed... i could load my css inline into the html using php (this way i still maintain 1 file) if this aids faster browsing versus linking up a css file.

does this hurt SEO at all by bloating the page or do the SE's not care.

    thoughts? being to nit-picky maybe?

Search engines ignore inline and linked CSS, so it's not a big deal on that front. However, your page will load quicker if you keep your CSS in an external file; that way it's cached as your user keeps going around your site. Visiting the first page may be a little slow (depends on the amount of content on your page and the size of your CSS file), but each subsequent page view will be faster, since the visitor has already downloaded the stylesheet. Getting rid of inline styles also makes your documents more maintainable .

maintance is no issue... i was just going to use php to echo a file with the css into the page.
