    Hi,

    Setting position:relative in your image seems to stop the scrolbars in your demo that you have here:

    http://atlas.nmfs.hawaii.edu/clipdemo.html

    Code:
    div.mimage {
    position: relative;
    width: 500px;
    height: 400px;
    }
    This is on mozilla/firebird.

    Thanks. Here's a summary of what I finally found to work for all browsers.

    Set absolutely positioned parent container of specified dimensions to {overflow:hidden;}
    * Now works in IE

    Changed map image div to {position: relative;}
    * Mozilla/NS are happy

    Set {overflow:hidden;} in map image
    * Opera happier

    The problem came up with both image and text content, so hopefully this workaround will be useful to others. Thank you to those that helped out.
