Tutorial Request : Extracting part of an image

Hi,can someone teach me how to get a part of the logo on the left (File attached)?
the one above where it says Vision. There's an outline of a 3 and E. I'm trying to fill the 3 and E with another colour, but since it's an open ended object, everytime I try fill, it fills the whole background. I've tried drawing lines etc around that part, but it looks ugly.

    Help greatly appreciated

    you could find the font
or use the lasso tool to make boundaries then fill.
Ill work more on this over my lunch break.

I talked to my contacts in the industry and they said that it's a font called serpentine.
the easiest thing would be to recreate it.
    So I will for you

Like this? Just use the pen tool to outline the area you want to fill on a new layer. You can then rasterize it, outline select it and fill it in on a new layer with whatever color you want.

Here's a PSD that does that.
