Hip-Hip hooray! Congrats qslack! And I thought you didn't know what you were talking about.

Just goes to show you that if you have enough time to spend on SitePoint, people DO look up to you.

Really, though, congrats. As for the mentor position, I plan to post 2,000 topics by Tuesday and beat Aidan.

    Congrats, qslack!

Aaah! Thank you all for the surprise party!

Aidan told me in a chat that I was now a mentor, and I checked, and sure enough I was. He never told me anything about SURPRISE PARTIES though. Hmmmm....

Well it looks like the SP obsession has come back. I was #2, left for 6 months, and I'm now #4 or so in terms of numbers of posts.

P.S. Elledan: I'm going to catch up with you soon!

A Mentor is a SP member (including forum staff) who has 1500+ posts - not an easy achievement. As a result of their long standing involvement and help they've provided in the forums (1500 posts is a LOT - these guys don't write one-liners in forums other than General Chat) they tend to be well known and respected.

You can look at the 'fresh, new' mentors and wow at the extent of their involvement at SPF. However, one look at TWTCommish (Chris) and Wluke's post counts and you'll just be astounded

*Note to the other 'super-posters': just because I didn't mention your name doesn't mean I don't respect and appreciate the help you provide

Congrats qslack, unfortunately you've got a LOT of catching up to do if you want your #2 spot back :P

btw - the titles are located under each member's name on their post. They depend on # of posts.

On the topic of mentors do they now automatically get 5 stars?

I was gone for 2 days and I come back and all the mentors now have 5 stars, whereas I know their karma ratings weren't that high before.

I just noticed that as well.

My Karma exploded in the last few hours, I am at 757 right now (up from 250 or so). I also went from two stars to a full set of five. Something is fishy if you ask me...

I am not sure what's up with this

I love the Karma, but I would like an explanation as to what is going on.

By the way, is anyone else noticing a Karma explosion? Or are Quinn and I the only ones?

Elledan also has 5 stars now.

And I know he was in negative karma only a week or so ago when he got in that little karma war.

    757 - yes... something fishy

I haven't noticed it for myself, but for Aidan, it seems he gained two stars overnight!

Perhaps the SP Mentors formed a cult in which they spend their days hunting up each others' posts and giving them karma. Since each of them can add about 15 points each time, it's easy to see how these guys get 5 stars

Uh oh, you guys are going to hold it against me that I blew your cover are you? I'm in deep now.. there go my stars It was worth it, the truth must be heard (least our beloved moderator of *this* forum decide to remove this :P )

Now, lets move on to the topic of SitePoint's role in faking the moon landing..

(or perhaps i'll move over to GT with my theories)

Anyway, before I let you leave thinking im a complete fool.. I'll tell you that I'm making a concerted effort to show my appreciation for those who help. For those of you who aren't using Karma.. I highly suggest trying, it could really help encourage the 'silent helpers' around here to become a little more active.

    just my 2 cents

All three SitePoint Mentors and the Blue Ribbon Winners of 2000 (mentioned in the holiday Community Crier) have gotten a Karmic Gift in thanks for their dedication and support of the forums.

Who will be the next to get such a gift? Who Knows.

All you have to do is create thoughtful and intelligent posts and it could be you.

Wow, when I mentioned that I received more Karma, someone took away some of mine. That's the first time (I think) that I have received negative Karma.

    Oh well, I'm still happy.

    Thanks for the gift!
