    Dear Noddy,

    I don't work for SitePoint, but it looks like they used two different images for the background of each cell. You can right-click and look at the image if you'd like.

    They probably used styles to achieve this, and I'm guessing they even built a script to change the style back when the season is over (they're pretty sly, those SitePoint folk).

    So yes, a background image and a style.

    Sincerely,
    Chris

    (stolen from the spf stylesheet....)
    .thead
    {
    background: #6C87B0;
    color: #FFFFFF;
    font-size: x-small;
    font-weight: bold;
    background-image: url(/images/snow1.png);
    background-repeat: repeat-x;
    }

    vBulletin has it's own style manager built in. I'd fare a guess Tom's used that

    He probably just opened up the stylesheet in his favorite editor, vB's templating system doesn't really cater for external CSS files.
