I was just wondering if anyone here uses Yahoo as his or her main search engine? I never bother with it - it seems to have such a bizarre, and, to be honest, arbitrary method of listing that I know if I search for something with it then I will be missing out of plenty of excellent sites that for some reason aren't in there. Obviously SitePoint.com is an example of this .

I use Yahoo because they also have Google for web search, but normally I just go straight to Google.

I know Yahoo does it automatically, but I almost always use Google. It loads so much faster. In some rare situations I use Yahoo.

I use Ask.com myself. If I need a broader search, I'll go straight to Google. I think Yahoo is living back in 1985.

Personally I think Yahoo is one of the worst engines around. Not to mention the horrible layout. I alwyas use Google.

My first engine of choice is HotBot. I can usually find what I want in two clicks there. I personally like how it incorporates the Open Directory Project along side its personal listings.

Lately I have been using Google on the recommendation of members heree, I just find the results there to be too broad for my liking.

As for Yahoo, I only use their Instant Messenger Program and only visit the site to change my password. The only reason I am using their messenging product is that it can get through the FireWall at work, I find it to be lacking in some areas though.

However at least here in the U.S., the public has been so saturated with "Do You Yahoo!?" ads that most Internet newbies use it as their first search engine. I think this is changing though especially with increasing ads from About.com (emphasizing the human element) and Goto.com (emphasizing a smaller, more oriented search).

Before Google I used AV. When AV came out it it was the fastest Search Engine and when you're running at a 9600 baud connection FAST was important - but I also don't like their clutter.

Now obviously I use Google, I like Google.

If I dont find it on Google I'll try AV, or Lycos, or About or Ask.

One thing I don't like about Google is no media searches. I still use AV if I'm doing a media search.

Yahoo - I hate it, I think it sucks. I hate it even more for its popularity. I wish I didn't have to submit sites to it, since it's submission review process is often so stupid.

I hope it loses more and more popularity as time goes on.

Yahoo! uses the Google search engine, so this doesn't make too much sense.

I use it, and pretty much its my main one. I like Google and they use Google searches, so it works for me.

I normally use AV or Google. Lycos is a bit slow and misses things.

I don't know about you, but my keeness to use an engine seems directly proportional to how well they've treated me i.e. how high up my site comes on certain searches and how quickly I was indexed .

Partly gratitude, partly recognition that it's a good search engine to have index my site (e.g. Lycos still hasn't indexed mine so I use it less. Same with Yahoo).

Yahoo! use to be my primary search engine, but now it is Google (I love how opera built it into their browser). I sometimes use Raging.com also (A 'google' version of AV).

I tend to either use Google or AltaVista, Google being the more often used of the two. They both give me good, relevant results to most of my searches. I'm gradually moving more off AV because of the popup window that they recently introduced trying to send me to the UK specifc version of AV, but that one doesn't seem to get as good results as the international one.
