For some reason, when I try to defrag my disk, it refuses to do so. It will start, and sometimes go as far as 90%, then I get the message "Driver contents changed:restarting".
The process will not complete. Having tried again today I can't even get 10% into it and the problem occurs again!
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated as my comp. is running very poorly!
Thank you for any help you can offer.love bone

Sounds like there is something running in the background that is changing something on the drives while defrag is running. Try doing Ctrl-Alt-Del and ensure that the only things running are "explorer" and "systray" before you start the defragger. Especially make sure to close virus scanners.
Hope that helps

I do believe Mr. James is correct
but sometimes there are those sneaky programs which dont even show up in the ctrl alt del menu
so the best way is to edit out your registry real quick making sure to REM all startup programs, and restart, and while windows is loading hold shift until its done loading.
If all else fails, start up the comp in ms dos mode and just use the dos defreg
i admit old fashioned but hey it works lol.
let me know if it worksNebiyu E.

You might also want to try running ScanDisk first, as there might be some directory problems that could cause Defrag to restart. Worked for me

Thank you!
I stopped all the programs that were running with the exception of "explorer" and "systray" and everything went smoothly!
