    background covers content

    I have a background image that is to go in the bottom right of the browser - and stay there. The thing is, when the window is resized, the background image sometimes comes too close to the content and other images essentially disrupting it.
    The current relevant code I have:
    Code:
    .mainpagebody {
    background: #fff url(images/mainpagebg.gif) bottom right no-repeat scroll;
    color: #000;
    }
    I guess my question is, is there a way I can force it to stay out of the way of the content? Should I make it the bg for a container div? Can I give it absolute positioning with "at least" xpixels from the top and xpixels from the left? That way for sure it will stay out of the way? I want it to scroll with the page, and to be at the bottom out of the way - I hope I am being clear.

    It seems to work fairly well in Safari and Camino, but IEMac is a joke. Grr.

    Thank you in advance,
    S*

    Update: One other thing - I want it to display at the bottom of the page/content - not at the bottom of the browser window - there may be some scrolling and I want it to genuinely be at the bottom. Should I try and put in a footer?
