    We got one for christmas...

I thought it was supposed to be really nice, and smooth, and not skip at all.

But it skips every once in a while, almost as if its lagging (in the software that puts it on the screen). Its sort of jumpy, but I cant duplicate it, its like random, or when I go to fast. I tried with a mouse pad and without, but its the same. I think it might just be the surface its on...but I dunno.

I am thinking of returning it and getting a trackball. What do you all think?

You could start with increasing the sample rate of the mouse. I don't know where you can set this in Windows (only in Linux ), but I'm sure someone knows this.

    I always prefer a normal scroll-mouse

I have the M$ Optical and indeed, if I make a quick move of a sudden then the cursor goes to the wrong direction. Although I can say, my mouse moves very smooth without skips.

I noticed when using a cloth mouse pad, that it doesn't jump at all. For all-day use it never jumps except of a quick sudden move. Try with such a mouse pad. I'm sure it will operate better

But keep in mind: IT'S MICROSOFT!!

Optical mice don't work on patterned fabrics or glass (although I doubt you are using a glass mousepad ).

My brother has an optical mouse as well (not a M$ one) and he uses a darkblue cloth mouse pad. I've never heard him complain

Three optical mouses? I believe you need only one mouse for one PC... or you must be extremely afraid that the first two will break down

I have a new system in which I use three mice. I have adapted an old serial port so I have a mouse for my left hand, one for my right and an extra for whatever other part of my body.

Nah, just joking! One was a present, one for my other computer and one for myself.

I have MS Intellimouse, and it doesn't seem to matter what kind of mouse pad I use it on.

I have one, I love it, it's great.

My only complaint is that it leaves spots on my desk... but oh well its an old desk.

    What?
I have heard before that aspen's mouse left spots on his desk from the laser. He must not be using a mousepad

Yes, thats the beauty of these mice, you dont need a mousepad. You can use them on your pant leg if you wish.

But mine makes freckles in the varnish of my desk, but like I said its an old desk and I don't mind.
