but I don't seem to be able to edit or even delete my posts. Is this a common problem?

You should be able to edit your posts by clicking on the "Edit" icon above the post text.

At this time you cannot delete any posts because it could destroy a worthwhile thread. You can contact any member of the staff and let them know which post is bothering you though.
