    How do you code a website HMTL to run from a CD-ROM? (not online)

    Many companies distribute manuals and docs in HTML format on CD-ROM, linked together as though it was a web page. I suppose you just code the web site as you would for online just can't use things like SSI and PHP.

    Is there something else I missed?

    That is exactly how they do it. If you want some interactivity like games you need to look towards client-side technologies like Flash and Shockwave. Shockwave in particular makes good CD's because you can compile it into an executable.

    Other than that, use relative instead of absolute links. And if you want the index.html file to load automatically on Windows, include an autorun.inf file.

    An example autorun.inf
    Code:
    [autorun]
    open=index.html

    Yeah, to be safe I would just use client-side scripting languages, along with graphics. Then just link everything together like "/pictures/graphic.gif" instead of "d:/manual/pictures/graphic.gif" because you won't know the CD-ROM drive letter of the users computer.

    There was a pretty interesting discussion about putting a website on CD in the Multimedia & Graphic Design forum (here: http://www.sitepointforums.com/showt...threadid=13081 ) a bit back.

    Peter even offered to send hardline a custom EXE file for that purpose. Ask him and he might send you it too, cos he's good like that

    Are you sure that works? I always thought autorun can only run exe files, I tried making an autorun video, and got error, didn't know you could autorun html files.
