Question Security questions for start up web application site

Hi my name is Joseph, My colleagues and I are planning to develop a web application for an industry. The application is going to have forms which gathers client information. Not only Firstname, Lastname etc... but also Social Security Numbers and other personal information that is highly confidential. We are planning to host this site to a realiable hosting company. What do we have to do to convince the client that the application will be safe and all information will be kept in a database. Do we have to host the site on our own server instead? Any comments are all welcome. Thank you very much.

Not neccessarily your own server but a "secure one." SSL with an https url. An in-depth privacy policy explaining what info is collected and how that info is used etc...

That should be a good start, once you build a customerbase you'll get more of an idea what and why people shop your site.
