    the ms internet explorer always inserts some vertical space after forms or objects etc.

    mozilla doesn't...

    is there a way to avoid this problem?

    Try

    <form style="margin-bottom: 0px">
    </form>

    If it works, put margin-bottom in a CSS class instead.

    or you can do the ugly (and bad) thing - and put the closing form tag (</form>) between a closing </td> tag and a closing </tr> tag.
