    Multi-lingual site

Can anyone recommend any good translation packages for a multi-lingual site?

We will be converting from english into 5 different languages.

Are there other ways to code a multi-language site using php and includes and/or a database?

Or is there a good translation service that can be linked to from our site?

Obviously there are different ways to tack this problem, just wanted to hear from someone who had already done a similar site.

    Cheers.

We've also looked - and the best translations are performed by a literate person of the language you wish to translate into. They will have the idioms and expressions that make sense.

Automatic translation at the moment is just not good enough for a published work.

The way round having to design your site many times is to use a CMS - with the contents being held in many languages in your CMS.

Not really. It translates words well, but may not always put them in the proper context.

Yeah but that's the problem with all machine translations. The solution to get good translation will be just as John said, getting hold of someone who's bilingual or multi-lingual & get the work translated by him.

But I find that Babelfish is a good tool when I need some good translations like translating non-english websites. It does a fair amount of idea what's the website is saying.

Yeah, but just as I said above & as Vinnie pointed out, its better to have translations done by Humans than machines if you are planning to have a multi-lingual website or multi-lingual content because human translation is near perfect & machine translations are near worst.
Machine translations like Babelfish or Freetranslations are more suited for some quick translations for getting an inkling idea about a word, phrase or like I use it for translating non-english websites into english.
