Question linking articles to my site ok/legal?

If I want to have a section of my site for web resources, or news, or whatever, and put up a bunch of links to other articles (ie. sitepoint's, etc), do I have to get permission?
I mean, I'm not going to sell the articles, but having those resources listed on my site will lend credibility and drive traffic to my site (hopefully), which in turn may benefit my pocketbook...
    any input?
    Thanks.

Are you just linking to the article or copying text from the article? How will the link be set up?

well, I think copying text from the article is not OK if you don't have permission, correct? But I'm not sure what the case is with just providing links to the article, and maybe a little blurb about the link...

Oh, and of course I'd give credit to whoever wrote the article in every case...

Linking to other sources, as long as the link does not enter a members only, subscription, or password protected are, has generally been found to be fair use and allowed.
Just look at google - they link to all kinds of good stuff.

Usually you're OK if you just link to another site (the site owner can still ask/tell you not to link to them).

But you can only copy the actual text with written permission.

There have been rulings that deep linking used to avoid advertisements, member access areas, etc... are not ok. Beyond that, any link to an openly available area is generally acceptable.
