How to protect my code?

I recently found out that someone has purchased my php script several months ago and resell it as his own product (of course he has been delected my copyright part) I can't encode the script since my users have to modified the code to suite their need

I'm wondering what action can I take against him? and how to prove I'm the original programmer for the script?

also I'll be appreciated if someone can share his/her experience of how to protect his/her code. Thanks

You probably need an attorney with some internet experience. People like that frustrate me; either do it yourself or don't do it.

Try to obtain server logs of when you posted the script to your sever. Then at least you can put some sort of a date on it.

Try sending him a cease and desist letter first. If he doesn't respond. Contact his webhost and notify them of the copyright infringement and perhaps contact a lawyer.

If you can prove that your source code and his are the same and that he downloaded it from you (not the other way around) you have a case. You would probably also have to prove that your product came out before his.
