How to know what your visitors are doing?

    Hello,

Besides a statistics package like AWStats or Webalizer, how can you go about monitoring what your visitors are doing. Specifically, how do you:

    - Follow the clickstream: where people come in, what pages they visit in what order for how long, and where they exit.

    - Find out what geographical locations people are coming in from (I have AWStats, but for some reason it isn't monitoring the locations).

I know there are some expensive analyisis software to follow the clickstream, but I need a more cost-effecient way to do this.

    Thank you,
    Chris

    Dear Rampage,

I checked into Web Trends, and it looks like they do some great stuff, but a bit out of my price range right now. Any other ideas?

We use a product called EyesOnTraffic. It gives you a real time view of your visitors clicking through your website. You just put a small piece of code on each page you want to track, and it will show you when a visitor hits that page, where they came from. It is a helpful product for tracking your visitors.

    Dear Rob,

I checked out Eyes On Traffic, and I think it's a pretty neat little tool. The pluses:

    - Under $100
    - You can see what people are doing in real time

But what I'm trying to get is a program that save visitor's actions so you can check them out later and compare them with each other. Seeing it in real-time has it's neat aspects, but it is too distracting and limited (one URL) to be very useful to me.

I just downloaded "ClickTracks" for a free trial, and that is also a pretty useful program. It's spendy (around $450 per server), but the liscensing is really liberal. It doesn't look like it follows visitors' actions, though, and that's what I'm really looking for.

I would love to hear some other ideas!

    Thank you,
    Chris S.
