The article on the front page of SitePoint talks about a free version of Cold Fusion. When I went to the Allaire Cold Fusion site, the only versions were a $495 one and a 30-day free demo. How can I get the free version? Thanks!

Here's a link to Cold Fusion Express 4.5 Product Overview

    http://www.allaire.com/Handlers/inde...Full&Cache=Off

The download is here, for both Windows and Linux. You have to set up a download account.

Be sure to read the product info. Express has limited functionality. Consider PHP. It seems to be leading the way for Server Side Scripting and it's free. All of it.

Cold Fusion express is going to be enough for most needs.

But also realize you only need this if you plan on hosting it on your own server. If you get a hosting account with a hosting company you don't have to worry about it. The company I use offers an excellent package for $35 a month, and you get a %25 discount for every additional account.

And then there is also free hosting companies that support cold fusion

As far as PHP vs Cold Fusion vs ASP

They all have more or less the same functionality, with only slight differences.

Yes, I'm taking intro course on it right now.

You have to install your Win98 Personal Web Server and then install the ColdFusion Express package. Once coldfusion is installed and rebooted your browser should automatically open. The page that it opens to is part of some introductary information and there are also some tutorials.

I personally don't have Cold Fusion installed on my system, when I run a script I just upload it to one of my accounts.
