    And you needn't find the value of a, you just need to make it look easier.
    Am I missing something here is it: [(a^2-a)/(a-sqrt(a))]-sqrt(a)

    b/c if not i think you would just pull out an a from the numerator and cancel it with the denominator and end up with a - 2sqrt(a) -1

    If you try it the way i have up top (where (a- sqrt(a)) is all in the denominator, and not just a like you have it now) Then everything would cancel out and leave you with a which in my opinion is a much nicer number.

    I just got 8/10 from that little test, not bad when it is 7am in the morning, with no sleep and a bit of booze in me

    Oh, and didn't use any calculators or look anything up during it.

    ok dumb question but when trying to figure out proportions, like the first question, did you use a formula?

    In this case, you would solve for x in the equation:

    4/6 = 7/x

    4x = 42 (cross multiply)
    x = 10.5

    damnit, thats right. I knew there was something about solving for x, but I couldn't think in my head of the proper way to go about it. I am now smarter

    8/10. Not bad for someone who hasn't seen the inside of an 8th grade classroom in 25 years.
