    I hear a rumor ...

I hear a rumor that DHTML and javascript are being phased out. No bugs in them are being fixed, and they will become obsolete. Is that true? How soon? HOW CAN THEY DO THIS??

Javascript is NOT being phased out, it's just being moved towards the more compliant W3C DOM, instead of browser-dependant DOMs.

Much of what you used to need Javascript for can now be done with CSS and CSS2, so you may be less reliant on JS now for your "DHTML" effects (I always hated the term "DHTML"). Otherwise, Jeff is right; it's just standardization of object models happening, you'll still be able to do everything you used to.
