    Width of a normal site

    Hi

    I know that if you want a site to be as wide as the screen you just make the wdith a 100%
    BUT, the thing is I am for one of the first times making a site frist in photoshop then am goign to slice it- I
    I want the site to be 100% wide but I need to know how many pixels/inches it is so I can make my topw header that long

    Please let me know thanks

    770 pixels is a pretty good width. This way - it will fit into the screen size of 800X600. This is the seize that CNN & most other sites use. Of course - if you want it to "fit better" in a 1024X800 - you can increase the size but then you would have a scroll bar at the bottom for those that are 800X600.

    We generally use 780 pixels as width to get best fit into 800x600 resolution screens.

    there's no such thing as normal as everybody uses different screen resolutions and different browsers. though generally, yes, you would aim for at least 800x600. if you're using dreamweaver, in the bottom right hand corner, it would give you recommended sizes for certain resolutions.
