Roadblock in Design [Color-Wise]
Hey all,
I'm really stuck here. I'm sitting, thinking of a colour scheme for my site, but I can't think of any unique, original ones...and I can't continue work on my site until I overcome this block in my head.
Anyone have any suggestions?//dalius.design.in.progress

Hi,
That's a problem for everyone. I've always had this problem myself every since I started some 3 years ago. Aside from taken a course on design, there are a few solutions out there. One place I can't live without these days is here: http://www.easyrgb.com/harmonies.php
All you have to do is come up with 1 color you like as the base, get the rgb values, then plug it into the form. You get all the compatible harmonies for that color. Your color palette is set!
Another one I found just recently is here: http://www.webdevelopersnotes.com/design/14.php3
The examples are in the 215 websafe color range, so you know your color scheme is going to look the same on any browser.
There are other tools out there too. This one here http://www.colorschemer.com/online.html
Is still probably the best tool out there , although I use easyrgb more these days.
Got some more links here that go into the theory of it:

The next 2 are in flash... the last one is very practical and usable:

xDev,
Thanks for that webdevelopernotes link. That's a really awesome site, I think I'll bookmark all of them though.

Dalius,
No problem, glad to help. I think everyone who designs sites should have these tools. I get inspiration for color schemes in all kinds of places though, TV especially. I know that sounds funny but have a look at some of the commercials and the way they put together the colors. Another thing on tv that inspires me alot is the way they create their interfaces on sports games and breaking news and stuff. You can tell that the people who design the look and feel of these things have alot of training in proper color use and interface design. The line is continually blurring between all forms of visual media these days.
Now if I could just use my photoshop eyedropper on them snazzy commercials
