Can anyone shed some light on the drop down menus for this site

Is this just CSS or CSS + javascript? How is it done? (in the simplified version - CSS & javascript newbie here)

I'm quite interested and looked at the code, alas - it still looks like Greek to me!

From what I can see it is accomplished using some clever CSS. The dropdown menus are nested unordered lists that are set to invisible by default, and made visible using the hover pseudoclass.
