    Help! Text disappears around floated images in IE6

    On the following page:

    http://www.computerbob.com/personal/grandpa.html

    I'm using CSS to float thumbnail images to the left and to the right, with paragraphs of text appearing beside them.

    I'm also using

    <p class="clearleft">
    or
    <p class="clearboth">

    along with

    .clearleft {clear: left; }
    or
    .clearboth {clear: both; }

    when I want to force new paragraphs to begin under the floated images.

    Here's the problem:

    If I view my page in IE6, everything displays fine, but if scroll down the page to display certain parts of the page (i.e. the dead baby) and then click my browser's BACK button and then click its FORWARD button to return to the thumbnails page, all of the text that is anywhere near SOME OF the thumbnail images has disappeared. Mousing over it can sometimes make some or all of it display again. The same disappearing text problem happens when I click on SOME OF (but not all of) the thumbnail images, view their full-size images, and then return to the thumbnails page.

    I'm trying to figure out if this problem is a known issue with the IE6 cache, or if something is wrong with just my copy of IE6, or if I have some elusive mistake in my XHMTL or CSS.

    Hi,

    I couldn't seem to duplicate your problem in IE6 (unless you've fixed it of course).

    IE6 has a habit of making things disappear when they're not supposed to (usually involving floats). Usually its the floated image that disapperas though so I'm not sure if this will help in your case.

    The solution has been to apply position:relative either to the float or the parent or both. It may not solve your problem but its worth a try. As I said I couldn't see the problem for myself.

    THANKS, PAUL!

    I was still having the problem, and was about to re-install IE6, when I saw your reply.

    I took your advice and fixed the problem by creating a div id selector that sets all of the paragraphs on that page (the parents of the images) to position: relative.

    Thanks, again!
