    Cheating PNG24 File Size?

There is an image I want to use on my site which is a fair size in dimensions. If I save the image at PNG-24 the file size is 150K or higher, if I save the image in JPEG the size is roughly between 40-63K. I may be grasping at straws is there a way, either by script or cheat that I could incorporate the PNG-24 graphic but it wouldn't be 150K but only between 40-50K by the browser ?!?!?

I don't want to save as two separate slices because in total that equals the same size as if it's one whole piece.

No not what I can think of and since JPG doesn't support transparency anyway it would need more that Necromancy to even contemplate such a feat. So that answer is you cannot cheat in that way.

GIF allows for transparency, so you could always try that, and PNG-8 as well.

PNG-8 doesn't give me that nice feathered looked as PNG-24 would.

I found the article that I forgot to mention in my original post. The article mentioned 'alpha transparency' which is only available in Fireworks for PNG-8. This feature is not available in Photoshop, I hope there is a program that can do equivalent to this option as fireworks.

If you absolutely have to a large transparent png-24, and are willing to have the compromise that a small amount of people won't be able to view, then you can import it to a flash swf, then change the swf internal compression to jpeg. This retains full transparency which will work when overlaid using wmode.
