    Hi,

    Do I need to install sendmail or something to be able to send mail through php on my localhost, when I am on the internet?

    If this can be done, where can I get sendmail or another mailing program to do what I am wanting to do?

    I have a windows 98 system, with PHP 4, Apache and MySQL.

    Thanks!

    Have a look on Tucows.com for a program called Agsmail, it's free and acts as an SMTP server, you can then set smtp path in the PHP.ini file to 127.0.0.1 (For some reason localhost didn't work for me).

    Yes, there is indeed a sendmail program for win32.
    However, I believe that to save the inconvenience of running your own smtp server, you can configure php to use a remote smtp server.

    Unfortunately though, sys admins got smart and dissalowed sending of email from computers they dont know, so you will probably need to run your own..

    You can probably download a free program from download.com..

    [mail function]
    SMTP = localhost
    sendmail_from = me@myaddress.com
