    Error 2003: Can't connect to ~

    I am using window XP.
I've installed mysql 4.0.15 (windows version) with typical installation.

    After installing it,
I went to c:\mysql\bin in dos mode.
and enter 'mysql'(c:\mysql\bin\mysql), then it says "Error 2003: Can't connect to MySQL server on 'LocalHost'(10061).

So I enter "c:\mysql\bin\mysqld --install", then it says "Service sucessfully installed.

So I enter "c:\mysql\bin\mysql" again, then it still says "Error 2003: Can't connect to MySQL server on 'LocalHost'(10061).

    What does the message mean?
    What should I do?

Try running "C:\mysql\bin\mysqlshow" It should show you if mysql is running or not.

If the service is installed but not running, try "NET START MySql"
