Not for free, you need to pay for a SMS gateway. Hope you have more luck in the ASP forum

Check out www.redcoal.com which is a viable solution; not too expensive either IMO ?

No, there isn't a free service - you could unethically, and probably illegally code a script that would pretend to be a user logged into say lycos and send it like that

Not very sure you actually could do that ?

No doubt Lycos [and others... AOL ?] would have security measures to prevent this as I see it.

No free SMS services folks; You needs to pay for them...

... Surely they're not that expensive huh ?

You can, with a LOT of work provide free SMS services, by hacking away a little. Some providers offer to send SMS by sending an email to number@provider.com. This is far from all, though, and if you reach any significant volume, they'll block you. I say suck it up and get an account with RedCoal. I use them, and they are excellent.

There are a few sites which dont implement such security measures. In fact, I did recently slap together a script/wap site which submits a form to another site, which then sends the sms on its way. AIM me at deviant2002 if you want the link!

    Yer, I'm sure there are...

But do you want to go down that road huh ? Why put yourself in that position ?

That's the same as like buying a pirate copy of DW MX at the local market for 15; It's illegal and as developer's we all need to rise above that right ?

But I'm not going to go into the morality of such things.

Same, if something is worth the money then I have no problems paying for it.

    Umm...

Over here in the UK I for one cannot afford to use pirate software; if the Police and Trading Standards pop in by and see that I have pirate software on my machine; I'm ****ed basically ?

    Hi,

I created an application for my final year project, that incorporated SMS messaging sending. It sent SMS messages to clients reminding them they had a dental appointment the next day.

I used www.clickatell.com, and got 100 free messages from them ('cause I was a student ). The script I created to carry out this function was about 50-60 lines, as I was dipping into a database finding out next day appointments whilst also deaing with other complicated issues.

    Tryst

There's this one site http://www.digitalnuts.com that's providing free sms services, ie., you can send an sms to any mobile in India for free. Now I know for sure that this guy isn't paying a sou & he's using PHP. He had this script for sale but when a buddy of mine emailed him for it, he said that the script's not for sale.

Well, you've been told by the people who actually do it that for a half-decent service, you need to fork out. You don't want to believe us then hey, not our problem, but I'm sure people experienced in this field don't like to be told they're wrong when they're not...

No offense, I don't mean that you are wrong nor did I say that I don't believe you. You misunderstood me actually.

I just said that I was wondering how that guy at www.digitalnuts.com is doing it since he's not paying for any sms gateway.

That's all. I didn't mean any offense to anybody & if anyone thought that I offended him then I am really sorry. & yes I do believe ppl out here or else I wouldn't have been here for this long, now would I have been?? So just cool it man, I didn't mean any offense.

Lol, I wasn't taking offense, I don't know what I'm talking about in regards to SMS. I was simply pointing out that if I did, I wouldn't be real impressed.

Proberly by a free SMS service no doubt ?

I wouldn't go near it with a barge poll; If someone, ie a client required SMS then it is only safe to think that since they've asked for it then they're business is going to depend upon it yes ?

For that wee bit of security and knowing it'll [the service] be there next week you need to pay; Simple really
