    Which monitor would you buy?

I've been using a 19" Mitsubishi CRT monitor for the last 3 years, but alas it saw its last day at the weekend.

I'm now using a 15" monitor temporarily at 800 * 600 until I get a new one (and yes it sucks!), but after looking at the monitors currently available I wasn't sure what to go for.

Although I loved my Mitsubishi, I've noticed that some of the flat screens (LCD/TFT) are starting to look impressive, but they 'used' to have a tendancy to lack the picture quality of CRT's.

I myself do graphics and develop web apps, so desktop space is important as well as image and colour quality. I was wondering if anyone has a preference for TFT's over CRT's when doing graphics work, or visa versa. Also is there a TFT/CRT monitor that you would recommend to purchase taking into account that picture quality is a must.

Any help on this will be appreciated.

We have an iiyama 22" CRT monitor and I love it.

I can't link you directly to it because the site is in flash, but the UK site is http://www.iiyama.co.uk/

We have the 22" VM Pro 513.

Our previous one only lasted about 3 years, but one of our cats kept sleeping on top of it and it got full of hairs. It had enough one day and blew up on us!!

I've heard dead pixels are a problem when buying lcd monitors, as manufacturers wont replace it until the monitor has a certain amount of them.

So if your going to get an lcd/tft make sure its a good one.

I'm buying a new monitor soon, and have decided to go for a CRT again, because i cant afford a good lcd.

I owned my previous LCD for 4 years and was always happy with it.

My new one is even better.

Dell UltraSharp 18inch -- only cost me like $360.

If I were you I'd go to a store and look at the screens.

IMO LCDs are great. They're also better on the eyes than a CRT so if you're staring at one all day an LCD would be better.

I second that! All monitors i have here are tfts...and i'll never switch back to crt (not only due to the fact that they're really better for my eyes, it's also the brightness and the little space the use)...especially after the bigger ones went down down down price-wise...(currently i have 3 15" and 15,1" and plan to get 17"+ when the first one is written off (tax) )
