    Where to start with CSS

    Hi,

I'm a bit hesitant to post this thread, since I'm sure this thread is posted once every month..
There is also an important thread in the CSS forum, but it seemed a bit advanced for me...

I'm contemplating to convert a site of mine to CSS.. but not really sure where to start..

Here are some questions that cross my mind:

Should I, or shouldn't I convert my site to CSS, how to determine?
What are the basics for CSS, that I cannot do without?
Will it make updating my site easier or more difficult?
What is the first site/tutorial I should visit/try?
    What are the cons/pros?

    Well, here's a start

Would be nice to be directed to some article or site or whatever.. would be even grander if someone could actually answer my questions/thoughts directly... Eiter way, thx a lot!!

    Lightbulb Thoughts & Advice

    Hello,

The questions you've asked are short questions that demand long answers, you know. The first thing you should do is read some of SitePoint's W3C CSS articles. They're not excessively difficult, and give excellent step-by-step advice to learning CSS.

You should also check out W3Schools. They offer excellent tutorials on the use of each CSS property, and even a real-time experimentation editor.

As for switching to CSS: yes! With CSS, particularly if you couple it with valid W3C (X)HTML, your file sizes can shrink dramatically. Also, if you use linked style sheets on each page, to modify, say, the color of the header text on all the pages, just edit the one style sheet. All the dependent pages then follow the update.

If you need any help, don't hesitate to post in the CSS forum, as you just have. You can also PM me if you like.

In addition to what everyone has said, This article on AListApart details a redesign to CSS from a designer's perspective. It's a good read for those new to CSS layouts.
