    Exclamation Odd W3C Validator Error

    Hello,

I tried validating my inline styles at the W3C CSS Validator, and I got the following error:

The markup declarations contained or pointed to by the document type declaration must be well-formed.
The DTD is on the first line, not the second! Here's the first two lines of the page in question:

    HTML Code:
    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.1//EN" "[url=http://Www.W3C.Org/TR/xhtml11/]Http://Www.W3C.Org/TR/xhtml11/[/url]">
    <html>
    Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

It might not like the capitals in the URI, but otherwise the only problem I see with it is that it is XHTML 1.1 not XHTML 1.0 Strict

That's what I'm thinking too. Just rip the XHTML 1.1 DOCTYPE from http://www.alistapart.com/stories/doctype/ and paste it in instead of your current one. See if that works.

    XHTML 1.1 Doctype is:

    Code:
    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.1//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml11/DTD/xhtml11.dtd">
Who walks the stairs without a care

    Smile Thanks!

    Hello,

Thanks, Vinnie... it turned out I was indeed pointing to a nonexistant DTD. Rep given.

    Edit:

To get the most benefit from using the xhtml1.1 DTD, store it on your own server - that way you can modularise it and use it in conjunction with modules such as 'with target'.

It's all right to modularise with current existing modules XHTML 1.1 though in general unless the browser is up to the task there is little benefit of creating new modules, using the target module for 1.1 would defeat some objectives.
