Question forum without tables but css

    Hi

I am currently planning to make a small forum script in php. the first thing I do is making a default layout, and I intend to write it with CSS instead of the classic tables. is this a good idea or should I still use tables for this purpose?

    thx for your help

XHTML, CSS and tables. It would be valid.

Use tables only for rows&column data.

    And don't use table-in-table.

Agreed, just because everyone is saying to use CSS instead of tables, that does not mean that use of tables in certain situations is bad. In fact, you can get carried away with CSS and make more work for yourself than is necessary. Don't use CSS where tables should be and vice versa. For example, on a forum display page that shows all the threads, it's perfectly acceptable, and most appropriate to use a table.

Also, tables within tables are fine too, if you actually are showing some more tabular data within the table.

Tables are for tabular data, CSS is for layout. One should not replace the other.

(All this talk about using CSS instead of tables, sometimes tables are what should be used, not CSS.)
