Now this is just a wild guess, but check like 54 of your httpd-perl.conf file to see if the line has wrapped itself to the next line, which in this case would be 55.

If it has, just comment the offending line out.
    Lats...

    nope. It isn't the case...

I think php might not have got installed properly...

the line 55 has the definition something like:

    if defined php4 include libphp4.so

    and php module isn't working...

Find the .so file and check permission (and of course if it exists )

Sorry but... have you installed php4 ?
    If not, install it.
If you have installed use which/locate to find *where*, and copy/symlink it.
If I can give a little suggestion use always the prepackaged Apache/PhP4 of your distro

Every Linux distro I've used provides packages for Apache + PhP ...
Red Hat, Debian and Mandrake for example ...
It's not a matter of 'combo', but of resolving dependancies

No, I had got only a single CD of MAndrake 9.1. So I downloaded apache and php binaries and installed them on my own. Apache was working fine... even perl scripts are running fine.. but only with php I've pbm.

If nothing works out, I would've to switch back to coding under windows

PHP *nix binaries form php.net ? I dont think there are any , do you mean you downloaded the source and compiled ?

if so what was your ./configure line ? , you need to provide the path to apxs or apache src tree
