    CafePress-alikes

I'm looking for companies that operate similar in nature to CafePress. What I want is a site that works similarly, has a large range of products like CafePress, but has more advanced options (like printing on color shirts).

I have a list of sites below, but none really offer as much overall as CafePress. Not all of these operate exactly the same... some require you to purchase your merchandise. Basically that's fine. I just need a place that will print/create the merch and handle the ordering and shipment. I don't care if I need to pay for my inventory before hand. Anyone know of any other places?

    Here's my list:

    http://www.cafepress.com/ -- duh

http://www.madmerch.com/ -- seems to be just t-shirts, more colors, some big clients, you need to buy your inventory; big plus: if you have other products to sell, they will warehouse, process orders, and ship them for you

    http://www.zazzle.com/create/info/contribute.asp -- t-shirts, posters, cards... low commission

http://www.printmojo.com/ -- mostly t-shirts... they say they have more to offer, but I haven't found it (their directory of products is mostly empty)... lots of colors, low prices and 100% commission above the wholesale price... must buy your inventory

    http://t-shirtme.buy-tees.com/ -- just t-shirts... they don't look too promising

http://www.storeharbor.com/ -- these guys are like CafePress for the business world... polo shirts, embroidery, etc... functions like CP

Anyone have any others to add to the list?

Reading more about MadMerch, it seems they also do posters, mugs, sweatshirts, hats, and mousepads.

There are several on-demand publishers like this now. I read a review on several of them, with comparisons on price and quality, but cannot remember where (it was in some magazine I believe). I recall one of the ones in the review with good marks being iUniverse. They have a nice site and their services look good, so you may want to check them out.

I've heard cafepress.com is the best... Does anyone know if there is a site that can rank the above per quality?

I know there is a place like that... I just can't find the URL right now. I'll keep looking.

On demand publishers I have looked into include:

    www.iuniverse.com (already mentioned)
    www.bybooksontheweb.com
    www.xlibris.com
    www.booksurge.com
    www.fultus.com

These all charge a set up fee, but do not require you to purchase an inventory, and will handle selling for you (most will also get you an ISBN number, a listing in the Books in Print catalog, and listings at placed like Amazon or Barnes and Noble).

And www.swiftcd.com is like CafePress for CDs.

http://www.lulu.com/ is the publisher I was trying to think of before. They off b&w and color printing with no upfront fees. You can pay $34.95 for an ISBN for your book. Pricing per books is $.02 per page for black and white and $.24 for color + a small set up fee (something like $4.53) + their fee and you can set whatever royalty you want beyond that. (see here: http://www.lulu.com/help/node/view/204)

It's a great service, one of the best out there from the looks of it.

They also do CDs (music or data) and ebooks.

    Ok one question:::

If you get a Print on Demand Publisher to sell the printed copies ... get listed in B&N and.... Some places like amazon.com .....

Can you still sell e-version of your book yourself on your site while still giving an option to buy a hard version thru on demand printer or amazon or something like that???????

Depends how their license agreement works. I'd contact individual POD publishers and ask.
