Enough already with the E-mails about the kit.

I've gotten so many e-mails trying to sell me the new book/kit that I'm growing less likely to buy it when I have the funds saved up for it. Reminders are one thing, but this is bordering on harrassment in my view.

I agree.

Sitepoint, I understand that you gain more converstions by sending out those emails, but they start to annoy me after the 3rd one. I know about the kit and I plan on buying the kit, back off please.

I also responded to the latest one I got, I was told I could unsubscribe, but wouldn't that mean unsubscribing from the whole book notification list which I DO want to be notified about new books, just not hounded about them.

Thanks Sketch!

I don't know about the others but for me anything more then...
- First Email
- Second, not sooner then a week after the second.
- Third, not sooner then 4 weeks after the second.
- FULL STOP
...rubs me the wrong way.

I subscribed to a 'book notification list', not a 'book bashed over the head' list.

You're comments are noted, thanks! BTW: It's pretty simple to unsubscribe - simply click on the link at the bottom any of the emails and you won't hear from us again on these followup emails. Then subscibe to our book buyers list to be contacted about up coming titles. You can do this here: http://www.sitepoint.com/books/

Sure, we can opt out, but:
1. It's not made clear that by doing so we are opting out of being bugged about buying the product, and not the book buyer's club.
2. We shouldn't have to opt out of being bugged to buy the product, you shouldn't do it in the first place.

We downloaded the samples, that means we're interested in the product, but it doesn't mean you need to ride our backs so much about ordering the book. It makes me feel like all you want is my money and that you're desparate for orders.

Theoretically, nobody should have received more than two emails about the kit from us (other than mentions in the TechTimes or Tribune).

We sent two emails to the people who downloaded Brendon's Freelancer's Kit and requested to be notified about the book/kit, and two emails to our past customers. We've done our best to weed out duplicates, if you got 3 or more emails at the same address for the kit I'd be interested in the details.

I got two, but I guess the thing is I'm not really interested in the kit right now. And I'm pretty sure I've never expressed an interest in it.

I can understand that you might want to send an email out to people who had expressed an interest (i.e. asked to be notified) and possibly even two emails. But two emails to people who haven't expressed an interest? One is a bit marginal, but two begins to seem a bit spam-ish.

Of course this is just my opinion. But you guys have quite a good reputation. You should trade on that and not try to jeopardise it, especially given your target audience. I'm sure you're fully aware of how this sort of thing could be perceived. Just something to think about

I'm pretty sure I saw at least 3 of them, but I deleted them by now, so no way to check that, but either way, perception is what is important on something like this, and obviously from the responses to this thread, I'm not the only one who felt it was a bit over board.

I have everything that comes from SitePoint go into it's own folder, so it doesnt get in my way so much, but yeah, I've got (I deleted them, so this is a guess) about 4 emails about the kit since downloading the sample docs a few weeks ago.

I think some were sent out to anyone who also bought a book. If I recall correctly, I received at least 4 emails about the kit since I downloaded the first 4 chapters. 1 was to say more kits were available. 2 as I recall were along the lines of why haven't you ordered yet, here's why you should and I think one was a follow-up to the download.

Is there any way to check how many emails went to a particular email address? I'd be happy to provide mine if you need to investigate this further.
