    A few questions

1- Basic Authentication, is it possible to do this thru a form rather then the Windows Popup for username and password. It's important that it's done using Apache .htaccess .htpasswd files or else I could just program password protection with MySQL/PHP.

2- How do you run commands with PHP on the system to create directories, password files and such?
    system("asdfa")?

That's pretty much it.. I think.

I'm using the PayPal perl script with username/password management, which is why I'm converting to Basic Authentication rather then MySQL stored username/password stuff...

It's possible to use the basic auth stuff with PHP but I've never done it myself. Frankly you're better of creating your own authorisation system in PHP.

    system("asdfa" )?
PHP has it's own set of filesystem functions.

I suggest you read the fine manual.

That doesn't tell me much. I read the manual in regards to system("stuff") and a few other functions, but haven't came upon any "own set of filesystem functions"

Could you be more specific and give and example, or at the very least explain why you think I'd be better off creating my own authorisation sytem which I already have but I think I'd be better off using Basic Authentication.

I won't get into the Authentication stuff,(a Google search for 'PHP Authentication Tutorial' turns up plenty of good links)

DevShed has a good overview of PHP's filehandling functions:
    http://www.devshed.com/Server_Side/PHP

    Also...

Here is 'that fine manual' entry for PHP's filehandling functions:
    http://us3.php.net/manual/en/ref.filesystem.php

Make it a point to learn how to find things in the PHP Manual, the user comments for each function are priceless when you are having problems.
