    jaiem,

There are many ways to increase your traffic even if you just started.

I just started advertising Dec 1/00 and I have 1200 pageviews per day. Most of those are from Goto.com, it does take time, but there are ways to speed up the process.

It is not unrealistic to start Dec 1 and by the 15th have 2000 pageviews per day if you are utilizing a few carefully chosen pay per click search engines.

I am planning to be up to 2000 - 2500 page views by Dec 31/00. It is easily possible if you wish to spend a few dollars to speed up the process and put in some long days finding partners, etc.

Everything's relative, as the physics boys say... Most importantly, know your expenses exactly and know your average income per unit of traffic.

In the end, at least on a commercial site, everything comes down to the numbers. It's entirely possible to take 200 hits a day and make money... just as it is to take a million hits a month and lose cash hand over fist.

Lane - Even at a mere $.02 per click 1200 views per day is $24/day or approx $500 a month! If business can keep up with it great, otherwise sounds very expensive.

    Well,

after all, I believe, everything is up to content. Traffic is relative and it is raising from level-down to level-up in a time. But that is truth only if you improve, or in worst case, keep constantly good, high quality content.

In other words, be patient and calm. ... And do some serious and large promotion

    That is all

It's definitely possible to get huge amounts of traffic in a very short amount of time. It's just a matter of luck, skill, and content.

My page, http://www.diinecro.com, got 600,000 pageviews the first month it was around. It was a Diablo II page and I got listed in Yahoo within 3 days (I haven't been able to repeat that feat with my other pages).

Since then Diablo II is not getting as many searches so I have actually gone down to ~ 150,000 pageviews monthly. That's a hazard of game-specific sites.

In relation to the original post, I actually make more money with the page now than I did then even though I am getting much less traffic. Find advertising programs that will appeal to your readers and you will make much more. After several months of researching making money on the internet I feel like I am just beginning to fully understand it.

Internet advertising is convoluted business since there are so many 3rd party advertising brokers, many that have no problem screwing the webmasters.

The way I look at it, if you aren't smart, patient, and persistent you will absolutely lose money in this industry. Either that or be extraordinarily lucky.

    Hi Jaiem!

Goto.com doesn't work like that. I now know because I signed up today. You deposit money in like an account (the minimum being $25), then each click's cost is taken away from that until it's empty. You've the option of 'topping up' the account whenever you like.

There's no way I could afford $500 a month that's for sure! Thankfully, most of the search terms I bidded on were only $0.01 each, because my site is aimed at a niche market there aren't many competitors.

I'm expecting some good results for this venture, I'll of course keep you all posted as to how well it's going!

I don't think you understand. I get 1200 PAGEVIEWS a day. That is only 300 uniques. Which equals about $3.00 - $4.50 per day.

The whole point of this is to get my site known and people to start coming back.

So far I have spent $30 at Goto in Dec and have received approx. 15,000 PageViews from that.

    Hi,

Since we are talking about holidays traffic, I just want to inform you that BizWhat.com tripled daily traffic from yesterday! There are few possible reasons for that:

    1. It is holiday season
    2. Our press release was published on one popular site on our native language
    3. Some search engines included us (HotBot, Lycos...)
    4. We exchanged our links with few sites (Special greetings to Aaron of webmasterlane.com )

Some of this, some of that... and traffic is going up.

    Thanks Kanazir:

I have been the complete opposite for Wednesday and Thursday.

I was averaging 1200 or so pageviews a day, then Monday and Tuesday I experienced like 1600, now for Wednesday I received only 400 and Today half of what I usually have by know.

The thing is ALL my sources of trafic have went down.
    Goto,Sprinks,About,BrainFox,DogPile,MetaCrawler,SearchFuel, NBCI and return visitors.

Could it be that all my visitors are shopping for the holidays????

    Hello Aaron once again,

I am very sorry to hear that.
We are having a serious boost in our traffic. Since yesterday, our trafic is doubled!!!

What I mean - it is 5 times bigger then two days ago!
What will happen in coming days, I don't know.

I wish you all the luck,

I must confess that I have found it relatively easy to make money on my website.

Football-Punter.co.uk is a site that provides articles for betting strategy as well as predictions. That means that each week I have one or two new articles up and the week's predictions from a couple of columnists who are happy to write for the site. Come Friday before the matches hits rocket as people look for info and tips on what to bet on. Last month I pulled in 55,000 hits and this month I will clear 60,000 easily. I have a couple of sponsors that pay CPM for advertising, and I also promote a couple of affiliate programs.

As long as you have fresh content, are linked in the right way, and are willing to approach advertisers (and then, when you have them, promote them above and beyond what they want) you won't have any problems.

At the moment I am really working on my forum so that that can bring in even more hits. I'm already making money off it via affiliate banners, enough now to pay to get rid of the board's advertisements (another great option from http://www.ezboard.com/ - couldn't recommend it highly enough). I don't spend too much time on the site either, as I don't have too much time - it's simply a matter of priorities.

Hope that helps, although I doubt I've said anything that hasn't been covered already and better.

The kind of help promoting i need is like either banners or ezines just something to gain me signups. The program is called funbug, it is a site where you play games to get entries into weekly drawings, held on every wednesday of every week! In 5 weeks total with them i have won $100 even, so i know you can get money freom them. When you win over atleast $10 you can transfer it to your free funbug mastercard online debit card! Spendable anywhere mastercard is accepted! I would post my link but i dont wanna be accused of spamming this forum, but if anyone has interest in helping me or need more info on this program please email me at pay2surf7@gateway.net I need these signups because when they win cash from the drawing you win %20 of what they win! And if you are a top ten referrer then you automatically get a free $100 every week, guaranteed! So thats what i need help gaining referrals for, so if anyoen wishes to help out ths 15 year old kid (hehe me!) please email me or post here!

    -----------
    thank you Josh

    Josh,

I don't think age has much to do with things on the net unless you are below the age requirements in your country to entering into a legal contract.

It's more a matter of your idea and how you present and conduct yourself. Who really knows the ages of the people we deal with online. The first time I bought a web server was from a 17 y/o kid. I didn't know he was 17 until much later but I really didn't care. Service was great and so was the price.

Age is only an issue if you make it such.

    Good luck.

I'm going to relate my experiences with my newest web site, Insane Pictures, because it's been extremely sucessful. Within 1 week I had 2000 uniques, and within 2 weeks I was/am up to 4000 uniques per day. The site is only 2 weeks old and I'm getting around 700,000 page views a month at this point. I'll explain how I did it.

First, about my site. It's a funny picture site. I have hundreds of funny pictures to look at, and you have the option of sending these pics to friends via Mailbits, thus making me money and at the same time promoting my web site via email. This can't be done on most web sites, as it's more of a content issue. Greeting cards, jokes, and pictures work best with this.

Now, first I bid on a few 2 cent keywords on GoTo and I was spending around $5 a day for 250 uniques per day. Now that I had some traffic coming to me, I began propositioning other humor sites to do link exchanges with me. Each link exchange I did brought me on average another 30-40 uniques a day. And so I kept doing this, which increased my traffic and allowed me to succeed at exchanging links with the higher traffic web site, until I'm at the point where I have a couple of sites that send me 100-200 uniques a day. All this and I'm not really in any search engines yet.

I add new pictures every day which gives me repeat traffic. I also get 50-100 subscribers to my newsletter per day so when I send it out every other day, people will usually visit my site as the email will serve as a reminder.

So overall, initial traffic via a service like GoTo can be useful to get link exchanges, which in turn will bring more traffic and allow you to do even better link exchanges. And updating your page on a regular basis will get you the return visitors, which when combined with new visitors, increases your traffic slowly but surely.
