Is your image linked as a site-relative root path or a document-relative root path? It makes a difference depending on how your website structure is set up.

Depending on what version you are using, Dreamweaver edits the image link so that they can be view anywere on the computer somthing like this "file C://webfolder/yoursite/images/dot.jpg" . If the files are exported out of dreamweaver (uploaded via Dreaweaver) then the links are fixed. If the files are grabbed directly out of the folder without going through dreamweaver it leaves the computer relative links in the pages. Another solution to this problem is creating a "Site Project" in Dreamweaver.

Just another quick note to add to that FYI, in MX, make sure you save all your work first. Dreamweaver will add relative paths if you save your documents first before you do anything with them.
