IE Taking table width too seriously

I have designed a CSS site without a single table in the design, however, to display some data properly, a table needs to be used (forums, and i don't feel like chopping it apart). The problem, however, is that the table needs to be 100% (flowing design) of the text area.

Mozilla has no problems with this, generating the table to fit the text area. However, when IE is used to view it, it generates a horizontal scrollbar and expands right as far as it needs to be at 100% (so if you scroll sideways, the table will take up the entire browser area)

Is there any way to fix this using CSS or any other method, as it's really annoying. (sorry if it is in the wrong forum section)

I had a similar problem some time ago. Have a look at the following link. Its in german but the code given there solves this problem.
